Relieving sportsmen's shoulders

Relieving sportsmen's shoulders

Extremely stressed, the shoulder is one of the most sensitive joints in sportsmen and women. Its great capacity for mobility can also lead to a lack of stability. The repetitive gestures of throwing or cocking, the level of intensity and the force exerted on the joint can give rise to a whole range of pathologies, whatever the age of the athlete.

Lack of physical preparation and training, or on the contrary, excessive stimulation, are often the cause of shoulder injuries. Pain can impair performance or even prevent sporting activity.

But how can you naturally regain comfort in your mobility and maintain your activity levels? The good news is that it's possible, and we can explain!

Article summary

Why is the shoulder a fragile joint?

The shoulder is a complex joint, ensuring precise arm movement and offering multidirectional range of motion. This capacity for movement generates significant instability, which makes it an ideal weak joint.

The shoulder is composed of three bones:

  • the scapula or shoulder blade
  • the collarbone
  • the humerus

It comprises four joints:

  • the glenohumeral joint Shoulder joint: the main joint of the shoulder, connecting the humerus to the glenoid of the scapula. It is essential for all arm movements
  • sternoclavicular joint: This is the joint that connects the arm to the thorax. It participates in the movement of the scapula.
  • acromioclavicular joint: This is the joint connecting the tip of the clavicle and the acromion. It enables the clavicle to rotate back and forth.
  • scapulothoracic joint: is the sliding space between the scapula and the thorax. It optimizes shoulder mobility.

The shoulder is surrounded by a kind of envelope called the joint capsule and by the group of muscles that make up the rotator cuffattached to the joint by tendons.

Which athletes are most at risk of injury?

Shoulder discomfort can have different causes in sportsmen and women. Depending on the type of sport, there are different groups, starting with throwing or arming sports such as volleyballthe handballthe javelin or the tennis.

These practices require very intense movements and exert extreme force on the joint. We regularly see shoulder tendonitis or tendinopathy of the rotator cuff. Excessive strain on the tendons is at the root of this injury.

For combat sports, such as judo, or highly physical sports like rugby, generate considerable stimulation for the shoulders. Sprains and dislocations are common and can be caused either by an impact or a fall.

Finally, swimming or visit power sports (bodybuilding, crossfit, etc.) often lead to shoulder injuries. The amplitude of their movements and the repetition of the gesture create excessive stress on tendons and ligaments.

Whatever the origin of the injury, it's important to consult a doctor at the first sign of pain.

How can you limit the risk of injury?

To prevent the risk of injury, it is essential to understanding the source of discomfort. Technical gestures must be observed and corrected if necessary. Correcting incorrect movements can significantly reduce the pressure exerted on the shoulder.

For the trainer, a adapted physical preparation must therefore also fulfil a preventive role. It helps to reduce the risk of injury through targeted muscular strengthening, but also through the use of stretching and relearning the technical gesture.

Natural shoulder relief for athletes?

To naturally relieve shoulder discomfort, there are various solutions:

● Physiotherapy

Specific exercise programs can help to release tension and relieve shoulder discomfort.

● Muscular strengthening

The aim is to stabilize more specifically the rotator cuff.

● STIMCARE patches

The natural composition of STIMCARE patches makes them an essential ally for athletes. They are non-transdermal and do not allow any chemical substances to penetrate the skin. The patches use eNOsyntex technology and are composed of natural mineral oxides that reflect infrared rays emitted by the body like a mirror, concentrating them at precise points. This concentration makes it possible to stimulate blood microcirculationof promote oxygenation and cell regeneration. It also helps to drain toxins generated by inflammation. STIMCARE patches offer a natural, effective and easy-to-use alternative for relieving shoulder discomfort. See the tutorial " Relieving shoulder discomfort" .
