Runners' ankles

Whether you're on the track, the road or the trail, your ankles are the first joints to be put to the test, as they are responsible for both propulsion and cushioning.

Their aim is to inform the central nervous system as quickly as possible so that it can adapt muscular work into coordinated, harmonious movements.

They are the basis of proprioceptive perception of the lower limbs.

Article summary

Ankles are real pillars of informationSo it's vital to keep them healthy and operational! However, they are naturally subjected to impact and vibration trauma race after race, and it's important to take good care of them after exercise.

1/ For joint fatigue, impacts and microtrauma

Following intense training or a sporting event, we recommend simply sticking a patch on the joint capsules of each ankle to optimize recovery. This is because.., thanks to the effect of patches on microcirculationThey enhance healing. You can keep the patches on for several days, as they are effective for at least 8 to 10 days at a time.

2/ In case of torsion, stretching of the ankle ligaments

Many athletes twist their ankles more or less regularly throughout the year, and to varying degrees of severity.

  • In the first instance, so as not to disrupt efficient motor patterns, it's important to avoid lameness as much as possible.
  • In a second phase, once healing has begun, beware of ligament or capsular scarring. They will eventually disrupt the fundamental receptors in the joint capsule, leading to chronic disturbances.

Stimcare infrared patches will relieve these two fundamental disturbances:

  • One or more patches need to be applied to the disturbed area (depending on its size). Increased micro-circulation will lead to harmonious healing without adhesion of the joint capsule.
  • By gluing the patches to the tibialis anterior and tibialis posterior muscles, which are the real drivers of the ankle, the patches provide permanent stimulation of these muscles promoting their physiological actions and preventing the onset of lameness.

Once glued :

  • The patches do not interfere with conventional proprioception and rehabilitation. which can take place without the need to remove them.
  • Putting "ice" on top of the patch is a good idea, since cold combined with increased micro-circulation generates an effective anti-inflammatory action.
  • They can also be placed under a support strapping.
Relieve muscle, ligament and joint disorders with STIMCARE

Simply apply the patch by following our tutorial videos, available in French only. here to guide you every step of the way.

If you have any questions about how to apply the patch, send your request to sante@stimcareonline.com. A therapist trained and certified to apply STIMCARE patches will take the time to answer your questions.

3/ For ankles weakened by previous sprains

Visit ligament stretching and tearing very often leave scar adhesions, making the ankles stiffer and less adaptable to movement, giving a sensation of fragility. Added to this are sensory disturbances of the joint capsule, which aggravate the instability felt.

Here again, patches will work wonders, enabling the capsule to correctly inform the central nervous system and teach the muscles to control the ankle correctly. The patches quickly restore ease and confidence, preventing chronic postural maladjustment.

Stimcare infrared patches are therefore very effective for relieving ankle painbut also to stimulate the proprioceptive system of the foot's propulsion/cushioning complex via the key muscles.
