What is cervicobrachial neuralgia?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cervicobrachial neuralgia is characterized by a severe pain that starts in the back of the neck<\/mark><\/strong>It extends down the arm and can sometimes radiate into the hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spine is made up of three distinct regions. The cervical spine comprises the first 7 vertebrae at the nape of the neck. The dorsal spine comprises the next 12 vertebrae. Then the lumbar spine, with 5 vertebrae in the lower back. This complex structure not only articulates the back, but also protects the spinal cord that runs inside the vertebrae. It's the spinal cord that distributes nerve roots<\/mark><\/strong> to innervate skin, muscles and joints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cervicobrachial neuralgia is a type of cervical nerve injury<\/mark><\/strong> which runs from the nape of the neck to the arm. When irritated or compressed, it becomes painful, giving rise to unpleasant electrical discharges or pinching sensations. Pain can be more or less constant, affecting mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What causes cervicobrachial neuralgia?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cervicobrachial neuralgia can be caused by a number of pathologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is particularly true of osteoarthritis. When the cervical disc undergoes premature wear, the space between the two vertebrae shrinks, restricting the passage of the nerve root. This loss of surface area can lead to cervical nerve compression<\/mark><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A herniated disc can also cause cervical nerve damage. Here again, the cervical disc is at the root of the disturbance. The annulus fibrosus is no longer able to hold the soft nucleus of the disc, which causes a protrusion<\/mark><\/strong> which compresses the cervical nerve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
