What is endometriosis?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Endometriosis is a chronic gynaecological disease<\/mark><\/strong>Endometriosis is called \"estrogen-dependent\" because it is directly linked to the action of ovarian hormones. In France, one woman in ten suffers from endometriosis, with an average age of 27. This condition is characterized by the presence of tissue similar to of the endometrium outside the uterus<\/mark><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The endometrium is the mucous membrane lining the uterus (see article Painful periods<\/a>), it thickens at the beginning of the cycle to enable the fertilized embryo tocarry out implantation<\/mark><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These fragments of mucous membrane spread to various parts of the body and react to the hormonal fluctuations of the cycle. The tissue behaves in the same way as the endometrium and begins to bleed. These bleeding<\/mark><\/strong> cannot be discharged in the same way as menstrual blood, they can be cause irritation and inflammation<\/mark><\/strong>. Endometrial tissue can also lead to the formation of cysts, scar tissue and adhesions. If these connect the organs together, they can cause severe pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which organs are most frequently affected?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
